Aipan: The Art of Uttrakhand

 The Kumaon region of Uttarakhand is home to the ritualistic folk art known as Aipan. The word Aipan is derived from the Sanskrit word Lepna, meaning plaster. The Kumaoni Aipan art is mostly drawn on joyous events, festivals, and even funeral rites. It is also believed that this folk art of Uttarakhand has the power to ward against evil. Earlier, the art form could be seen on the walls and floors of homes, but today it is found in various items of apparel or home decor pieces. History   Aipan folk art flourished during the rule of the Chand dynasty.  Uttrakhand which have lots of tradition jewellery which have retained the uniqueness for their ornaments till now. The traditional jewellery is basically crafted out of gold and silver as well as with brass. Some five items of jewellery are :-  SIKKA MALA:- also known as kaldaar is a type of jewellery that is popular in several Himalayan locations. Simple necklace is embellished with various antique coins or sikkas.  A traditional attire, PICHORA of Uttarakhand's kumaun region.  ORIGIN   In the ancient time, traditionally it was handwoven using natural dyes and cotton, and silk fabric. The Pichora is the use of auspicious symbols like SWASTIK, which represent goo look, prosperity and protection.
